Athletic Directors Message

Welcome to Damien Athletics

Welcome Spartan Fans and a very warm welcome back to all our Alumni!

We, at Damien High School, are extremely proud of our over 600 student-athletes, our professional and experienced coaches, our dedicated Athletic Training team, and all other staff that have helped create and maintain an athletics program we are all so proud of. But we would be remiss if we didn’t welcome you, our Spartan faithful. As Athletic Director, I want to personally thank each of you for your support and dedication to our athletic programs, coaches and, most importantly, our student-athletes.

We are very proud of the recent accomplishments of our student-athletes and look forward to an exciting 2017-18 campaign. Damien finished the 2017-18 in fine fashion. Every single Damien Varsity team maintained a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or higher. Our teams qualified for the playoffs in 10 of 15 sports. Damien athletics captured three league championships in the sports of water polo, volleyball, and swim and dive. The swim and dive team, fresh off last year’s championship, finished CIFSS division two runner-up this season. Damien sent three teams on to compete in the highest level of competition, at the CIF State level, in the sports of Basketball, Track and Field, and Swim and Dive. Recent graduate, Zach Shinnick capped off an amazing high school career in fine fashion, capturing the title at the CIFSS Meet, Masters Meet, and CIF State Meet in the 400M. Zach then went on the take the crown at the USATF Jr. Nationals in the same event and represented the USA at the Pan American Jr. Championships in Peru, bringing home a bronze medal in the 400M and a gold in the 4×400 relay. Fifteen student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent and accepted scholarships to play Division 1 athletics next year. I want to say a big thanks to all our coaches for their willingness to commit so much of their time and talent to our student-athletes. I can confidently state, our coaches are a large reason Damien can boast as much success as it does.

I would like to thank the faculty and staff for their support of our student-athletes.  Because of these outstanding men and women our student-athletes are prepared for success academically.

Additionally, I need to extend a big thank you and have an immense amount of gratitude for our booster club and parents. Without your tireless hours of volunteer work, athletics at Damien could not function. Thank you!

I look forward to spending the 2017-18 season cheering on our teams from the sidelines and hope to see you all there.

Go Spartans!
