Hello Spartan Families,
In what has proven to be unprecedented times, I wanted to share the latest correspondence received from the CIF-SS office regarding athletics for the coming school year.
Yesterday, July 20, 2020, CIF announced plans to have all sports compete this school year. This is great news! All of our student-athletes will have an opportunity to compete for Damien this academic year. I encourage you to spend some time reviewing the CIF-SS announcement in full, but the major highlights are the following:
1) Athletics will be played this year in two seasons. The first season will begin in December and finish in March. The sports of Cross Country, Football, Volleyball, and Water Polo will compete during this time. The second season will begin in March and finish in June. The sports of Baseball, Basketball, Golf, Lacrosse, Soccer, Swim, Tennis, Track and Field, and Wrestling will compete during the second season. We also hope to run Ice Hockey, Roller Hockey, and Mountain Biking, however those season dates are yet to be finalized.
2) For the most part, the seasons will run in their entirety and not be faced with a reduced schedule. There will be a full schedule of post season competition.
3) There is a one school year exception to the rule that previously disallowed concurrent participation on an outside team during the high school season. In other words, for this school year, a student-athlete would be able to play on his high school team and an outside team at the same time. This has been implemented to adjust to the calendar changes.

Obviously, all of the above is contingent upon getting some relief from the current pandemic crisis. Our first goal will be to get our student-athletes back on campus safely to begin preparation for their seasons. We are currently working on plans to make that happen. Just as soon as we are able to begin, we will. We will communicate those plans in full once they can be implemented.
If you should have any questions, comments, or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you all for your unwavering support of Damien High School.
