Damien Cross Country – 2020

The Damien Cross Country Team Experience

Testing your physical limits through a demanding workout, developing new friendships or strengthening old relationships, strategy sessions over pizza, the joy and sadness that comes with one’s success or failure in a race, a sense of brotherhood – all of these elements make-up the Damien Cross Country team experience. Spartans seeking to get fit for another sport such as lacrosse, soccer, tennis, track, or wrestling or who simply want to get into shape are welcome to join our summer training program.

Note: The St. Lucy’s Cross Country team will practice with the Damien Cross Country team and compete at the same meets.

No-Cuts Policy

Damien Cross Country maintains a no-cuts policy and every member of the team has the opportunity to compete in every meet, whether it be an Invitational or a League Meet.

Necessary Equipment

A good pair of running shoes, running shorts, and t-shirts.

Summer Practice Schedule

Our 1st day of summer practice will be June 22nd. Practice will be from 6:15am – 7:45am, Monday – Saturday. Athletes enrolled in a Damien Summer School course that starts at 7:40am will end their practice at 7:15am so they have adequate time to get home for their virtual class.

We will send out a weekly training calendar on Sundays, via Remind, so that you will know where we are training on any given day and what run is scheduled for that day. During the first few weeks of practice, you will be introduced to all of the runs that start from Damien as well as various running drills and forms of strength training. Initially, Monday – Friday practices will start at Damien’s track and Saturday practices will be held at Oak Mesa Park. We will add additional locations and runs as the summer progresses.

The Remind Communication System

If you are in joining the Damien Cross Country team or joining us for fitness training you will need to sign up for the new Damien Cross Country Remind account. I will send you a PDF that explains how to sign-up for the account. The Damien CC Remind account will be my primary means of communicating with you regarding practice schedules and upcoming meets. I will add you to the team roster once you have signed into the Remind account.

Note: I will use the CC Remind account to notify you of any change to the start of the practice due to COVI-19 protocols, Archdiocesan directives, and Damien administration policies regarding facility use.

Physical & Athletic Clearance Process

All participating athletes must have a physical on file at Damien before they can practice. All athletic physicals must be signed by a D.O. or an M.D.! You may have your personal physician complete the physical, go to a Pomona Valley Health Center (Chino Hills, Claremont, or La Verne), schedule an appointment with the Sports Medicine Center at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (909.865.9810), or go to a local Urgent Care. In all cases, you should call ahead of time to schedule an appointment.
